A leading trader of organic
fresh produce was making plans to launch a fairtrade
exotic fruit in
Europe. The company had little prior experience with fairtrade products
and commissioned Organic Monitor
to provide information on sales channels and
pricing. A key
objective of the client was to ensure that it selects the most important retailers for
its product launch.
The study involved an assessment of sales
channels for fairtrade products in Europe. Research showed that demand
for fairtrade fruits was concentrated in just a few countries.
Profiles of the leading retailers in these countries were prepared.
Details of the fairtrade fresh produce range was given as well as
prices of fairtrade, organic and conventional fruit.
This information enabled the client to focus on key country markets for
its product launch. It was able to make contact with the leading
retailers of fairtrade products and enter contracts for the
exotic fruit. Partly as a result of the study, the client is now
becoming a leading trader of fairtrade exotic fruits in Europe.
